In memory of Floyd A. Bruner

Floyd Bruner spent a large part of his adult life "Hoboing" on the Clinchfield, capturing photos all along the way. Learning the names of Engineers, Brakeman, and Conductors, he managed to get rides in all seasons, occasionally riding in the Cab during the winter months in exchange for working during stops releasing and coupling cars, allowing a crew member to stay in the warmth of the cab. Floyd's love of the Rail Road re-kindled my own interest, and this site is a testament to his influence.

Floyd often spoke of riding under the slope sheet on hoppers, or chancing across the occasional open boxcar to get him where he was going - which was wherever the train was going!

You can find an article by Floyd about his "hobo" experiences in the archives of Ties, the member publication of the Southern Railway Historical Association. His photos have appeared in many publications over the years, most notably in Trains Magazine from Kalmbach Press.
